Dr. C. R. Sane was born on 12^th may 1912. He established the Deptt. of Animal Reproduction, Bombay Veterinary College in the year 1958. He held the post of Professor and Head as well as Principal of Bombay Veterinary college during 1963-64. He was incharge of A. I. in cattle and sterility scheme of Bombay state. He performed first A. I. in cattle in Pune, Maharashtra in 1947-48. He was founder member of ISSAR and took a lead role in establishing ISSAR. He authored and edited the first Indian textbook on Reproduction in Farm Animal which was recognized by ICAR as textbook. Due to his effort, Dr Nils Lagerlof visited India, on whose recommendation the subject of Animal Reproduction was given a separate stature at the national level.
