A study was undertaken to relate the superovulatory response, recovery and quality of embryo at different stages of the cycle with the circulatory progesterone hormone in cross-bred cattle. The concentration of progesterone at initiation of superovulation treatment was correlated (r = 0.34) with subsequent ovulation rate, quantity and quality of embryos. However, progesterone concentration on the day of flushing was significantly correlated with ovulation rate and transferable embryos in FSH treated cows. Ovulation, embryo recovery and transferable embryos were highly related to luteal function at initiation of superovulatory treatment and post-superovulatory treatment.
