Several studies conducted among various breeds of cattle and buffalo reported the efficacy of the controlled internal drug (progesterone) releasing device (CIDR) in treating anoestrus animals and synchronization. The goal of the current study was to evaluate the conception rate and potential for estrus induction in postpartum anoestrous indigenous Kangayam cows treated with CIDR. The investigation was conducted at Kangayam Cattle Research Station, Sathyamangalam. About 12 post-partum anoestrous cows were selected after gynaecological examination and CIDR were placed in vagina for 9 days and removed on 10th day. The cloprostenol injection was given before the day of removal of CIDR. CIDR retention and conception rates were 100% and 66.66% respectively. This study concluded that effectiveness of CIDR protocol to induce estrum in Kangayam cows resulting in improved conception rate.
